Co Dubuque Camping on the Lake

Co Dubuque Camping on the Lake

It’s time for Co’s second annual camping trip!

This year, join us at Lake Joy Campground in Belmont, Wisconsin.

24192 Lake Joy Lane
Belmont, WI 53510

Thanks to an arrangement with the owners of Lake Joy, this event will be 100% free of charge. Please respect the grounds and rules as a thank-you for this.

Lake Joy is just a short 35-minute ride from Dubuque. Hop on Highway 151, head over the Dubuque–Wisconsin Bridge, and drive through Kieler, Dickeyville, and Platteville — Lake Joy is located 3.5 miles north of Belmont, on the right side of the highway when headed north. You will see a blue sign in a field telling you to turn right. Look for Burr Oak Road just past this blue sign. If you miss this turn, moments later you can turn right onto Bethel Grove Road. Follow the signs into the campground.

Check-in begins at 5PM on Friday, August 25th and check-out is by 5PM on Sunday, August 27th.
Visit for a few hours, come for one night, or stay the whole weekend! Everyone is welcome to come in & out when they are able!

Lake Joy is located on a 65-acre lake, which is open for swimming, fishing, and boating.

The swimming area consists of two sandy beaches, with numerous inflatable water toys spread between them including a trampoline, teeter-totter, slide, and the ‘Saturn’. These are fun for climbing, rocking-around, and diving off of. Please play safely. There’s also a platform for sitting and sun-bathing. The swimming area’s maximum depth is 9-feet deep. Lifejackets are available for $3/day if you feel you need one.

You may bring your own boats to the campground, but gas outboard motors are not allowed (trolling motors only). Boats are also available for rent for $8/hour, including pedal boats, row boats, canoes, and kayaks. Boats are rented between 10AM and 5PM (boats must be returned by 6PM).

You do not need a Wisconsin fishing license to fish here, as this is a private lake. There’s large and smallmouth bass, catfish, walleye, crappie, bluegill, northern pike, and more. So bring your poles! Bait is for sale in the camp store. Worms only, no minnows allowed.

Alcohol consumption is allowed at any time, as this is a 21+ aged event. BYO. Please drink responsibly and remember to keep hydrated. Dispose of all cans/bottles in bins.

Do not bring any outside firewood to the campground, as this could transport-in pests and invasive species. Firewood is for sale at the camp store for $5/bundle.

Additionally, the camp store sells ice, fishing bait, ice cream, candy, water and soda, and assorted camping supplies & toiletries. It will be open 9AM-9PM on Friday and Saturday, 9AM-5PM on Sunday.

The game arcade has: pool, air hockey, ping-pong, foosball, connect four, pinball, and more. Bring your quarters! Or there’s a change machine in the arcade that accepts $1s and $5s. The arcade is open 10AM to 11PM.

Bring your own tents, tipis, hammocks, cots, sleeping pads & mats, air mattresses, etc. for sleeping in/on. Nothing of this sort will be provided. Come self-prepared. There is a Walmart located 10-minutes away in Platteville if you forget anything.

We will be in our own private circle in the woods, with multiple fire pits and picnic tables to share amongst the group. This will be directly near a porta-john, as well as within short walking distance to the full bathhouse which includes running-water toilets, free hot showers, and a coin-operated laundromat. The beach will be just a few minute walk away, and you can fish from the shore directly below our camping area. It's easy to walk around the grounds, but you may also bring bikes or golf carts.

There will not be electricity or water at the site, but you can charge your electronics in the bathhouse or arcade, and there’s multiple potable water spigots on the grounds. This won’t be “roughing-it” per se, but do come prepared knowing that there will not be faucets or outlets in our immediate camping area — you must walk to find electricity or water.

Most important of all — come prepared to relax with old friends, meet new friends, enjoy the beautiful lake, and shoot the breeze around the campfire. This will be a fun and easygoing weekend, open and welcoming to all 21+!

Ask Luis Morteo or Cindy Lewis for further details.

Trans Beach Party: 2017 South Side with Pride

Trans Beach Party 2017:

PART 2

Get Your Pride! is a public, loving and affirming gathering for all trans people to gather and be our true selves, while reclaiming a space that has historically been hostile to trans bodies. We are holding this celebration in June this year in order to make space during LGBT Pride Month for trans and GNC bodies, and to actively combat the gentrification and CisGayYt-domination of traditional Spaces.

We will bask in the power and love of Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, and all of our Trancestors while we celebrate the beauty, diversity, love, and strength of our community together... on a beach!! Come get your pride!!

Location: Rainbow 🌈 Beach----look for the trans pride flags!!

Time: 10AM-5PM
******** 10AM-12PM are FAMILY HOURS for trans children and youth to come and participate in the beach party!! All are welcome the entire event, but please be aware that for the first two hours, we want to keep the environment friendly for children*******

What to bring: your coolers, chairs, beach wear & any trans pride flags or other visibility is welcome but not required! If you would like to contribute a donation toward refreshments please contact the Trans Liberation Collective; You can also just bring food, drink, or ice to contribute!

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEACH TIPS:

What the park district doesn't allow:
-The beaches do not allow alcohol*****
-The beaches do not allow smoking****
-The beaches do not permit amplified music. So, if you were planning on bringing your PA system, please leave it at home! Small bluetooth device speakers are okay.

What the beaches DO have:
-There are gendered bathrooms and a **family restroom** please be mindful and use the buddy system when accessing restrooms (when possible). Please let folks know if you need support accesing bathrooms or exiting/entering the beach.

If you want to contribute, you can bring the following to share:
-water
-sunscreen
-extra blankets
-trans pride flags (you probably have at least 4 or 5 sitting around)
-any extra food or snacks that you would like to share!
